Your pregnant belly is growing to the point that you can feel every single movement of your baby. Everyone around you keeps asking for the due date. You might have already decided on a name for your baby or not. But one thing is certain: you don’t know if you are 100% prepared for your baby’s arrival. The time is chaotic, there’s too many things to think about and shopping for all the baby essentials sounds a little bit overwhelming. From setting up the nursery to gathering the gear for eating, sleeping and diapering.
How do you figure out which are the must-have baby items you absolutely can’t live without? If you’re scared you might forget something we’ve got your back! Listed below, you’ll find all the must-have items, broken down into these sections:
  • Baby Wardrobe
  • Baby Nursery
  • Baby Diapering
  • Baby Bath
  • Baby Feeding
  • Baby Health
  • Baby Gear

Let’s be honest. Tiny baby clothes are so cute. You could easily fill up your whole wardrobe with them. But what do you really need? Here’s the baby wardrobe must-haves:
  • 4-8 pants (we suggest footies)
  • 4-8 shirts (with snaps in the torso or envelope folds at the shoulders)

  • 4-8 one-piece pajamas
  • 1-3 sweaters or jackets (front buttoned)
  • 1-3 rompers or other dress-up outfits
  • No-scratch mittens
  • 4-7 socks or booties (shoes are unnecessary until baby starts walking)
  • 1-3 newborn hats (broad-brimmed for a summer baby, soft cap that covers ears for a winter baby)

  • wearable blankets for the winter
  • Lightweight and heavy stroller blankets
  • Gentle laundry detergent

We are sure you want to create a magical world for your baby’s room and you probably will. But what’s the most essential furniture and baby bedding? Here it is:
  • Crib, cradle or bassinet
  • Firm, flat mattress for the crib

  • Baby monitor
  • Rocking chair or glider
  • Swaddle (optional)
  • Diaper pail (optional)

On to the more smelly stuff. Probably this is not going to be the most memorable memory you will have of your baby, but you’ll get used to it. This is the list of the baby diapering must-haves:
  • Diaper bag
  • 2-3 large boxes of unscented baby wipes
  • 2 large tubes of diaper cream
  • 2-3 large boxes of disposable newborn-size diapers or 6-10 dozen cloth diapers and 6-8 diaper covers

Now for some fun: bath time! After you get used to your extremely slippery baby and you’re positive he/she won’t fly from your hands out of the window, here’s what you will need:
  • Baby shampoo and body wash
  • 2-4 hooded baby towels
  • Soft washcloths
  • Baby bathtub

Your baby is crying again? You know what’s up. It could be daunting at first because there’s a whole bunch of stuff that you will actually need to when it comes to feeding your infant. Here’s the must-haves:

  • First aid kit
  • Baby thermometer

  • Cradle cap brush
  • Petroleum jelly and sterile gauze
